Local News: Repair work continues on Washington SR 4 landslide site

by Joanne Rideout

Most local residents in Washington know that  SR 4 has been closed since Jan 23, when a landslide took out the road west of Cathlamet. Since the slide, emergency clean up crews have removed slide material to the tune of 50,000 cubic yards of rock, enough to fill more than 3,500 dump trucks. Crews have also begun long term stabilization of the area to keep the slide from happening again.

In the coming weeks, the state will hire an additional contractor to finish the project. Work along the roadway will likely resume in late spring. It’s still too soon to tell when both lanes of SR 4 will reopen to traffic. For safety, the current work around, an alternating single-lane closure, will remain in place around-the-clock until work is completed.

Drivers are asked to please slow down through the work zone. You can check real-time travel information before you travel with the WSDOT mobile app.
