Local News: House fire in Astoria damages home, kills family pet

Tuesday around 2 pm, the Astoria Fire Department responded to 191 W Klaskanine Ave for a report of a structure fire. The fire was brought under control within ten minutes. Firefighters remained on scene until 4 P.M. removing smoke from the structure and conducting an investigation. The fire was investigated and determined to be accidental in nature. The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. One family dog died in the fire, and another was treated on scene by firefighters prior to being transported to a vet for further treatment.

The Astoria Fire Department was assisted on scene by Astoria Police Department, Medix, Lewis & Clark Fire Department, Warrenton Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The building suffered major smoke and heat damage. Total damages are estimated at $100,000.  No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
