Either as listener or creator, how we participate in music is deeply informed by cultural norms. In this workshop, I’d like to invite musicians, non-musicians, beginners, and experts to explore our often hidden cultural values. We will investigate examples of unconventional songs and styles and explore how integrating “play” into your music can lead to unexpected places.
Mike Long (Tiny Anthems) has been writing songs about other people’s lives for a living for the last half a decade. Having composed and recorded hundreds of sprawling, funny, sometimes messy songs to celebrate actual people, he believes that music and community go hand-in-hand.
