Spencer Day has been categorized as a jazz singer, and there are the obvious comparisons: Sinatra, Harry Connick, Jr, the great Mel Tormé. However, Spencer Day cannot be confined to
a category. He does indeed do jazzy interpretations of Broadway tunes (“Bali Ha’i”, “I Don’t Know How To Love Him”) and pop songs (“The Look Of Love”, “Addicted To Love”). His
slowed-down take on Buddy Holly’s “Oh Boy” makes it romantic in a surprising new way. Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin’ On” is a heart-wrenching plea. Tom Petty’s “Last Dance With Mary Jane”
finds an ironic jazz groove. Spencer Day is a master cover artist.
The original songs by this gifted songwriter defy categorization. They are endlessly witty, imaginative, and theatrical, even historical. Spencer Day’s creations include ‘Poor Marie” (a reflection on French Queen Marie Antoinette), “Movie Of Your Life”, “Chateau Marmont”, “The Mystery Of You”, and the widely-acclaimed “Till You Come To Me”. He has released 7 albums, racked up awards and acclaim, and performed at the Kennedy Center and Hollywood Bowl. He has been a finalist on TV’s Star Search. His nimble, acrobatic voice and exceptional piano performances have drawn legions of adoring fans. Spencer Day will appear at the historic Raymond Theatre, 323 3rd St, Raymond, WA on Sunday, April 28, at 2:00 PM. Admission is free with a 2023-2024 SAL season ticket. Tickets for this performance will be $25 at the door (credit card, cash, or check), or $5 for students.
