WRITERS FOR DEMOCRATIC ACTION (WDA)
PRESENTS
IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE–AGAIN!
October 27, 2024 3:30pm The Ten Fifteen Theater 1015 Commercial St. Admission is free.
Writers for Democratic Action (WDA) and The Ten Fifteen Theater announce the performance of IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE–AGAIN!, a new play resisting the rise of authoritarianism.
This is the second phase of WDA’s nationwide literary celebration of resistance to the threat of losing our democracy. On July 19, 2024, more than 90 readings of this simple script were simultaneously mounted in theaters, bookstores, bars, churches, parks, and living rooms all across the nation. Thousands of people accepted WDA’s invitation to stand strong for democracy in America. And now they are doing it again.
IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE-AGAIN! is inspired by the Sinclair Lewis play It Can’t Happen Here, which was presented across the nation on October 27, 1936 as a New Deal rallying cry against the rise of fascism in the US. Now, only days before the 2024 presidential election, and honoring the Lewis anniversary, that cry must be heard again.
We invite everyone to join us in this nationwide event. It is a call to action and a call to vote. Vote! Vote!”
The local reading will be held at 3:30 pm, October 27th at The Ten Fifteen Theater, 1015 Commercial Street, Astoria, Oregon, featuring Pamela Alegria, William Ham, Jen Hoff, John Hoff, Remi Hoff, Lori Wilson Honl, Michelle Liotta, Alyssa Monk, Nancy Montgomery and Slab Slabinski. Admission is free.
WDA is an international organization of more than 3,000 writers, as well as over 150 bookstore partners, standing together to champion democracy and the institutions that embody it. For more information, please visit us at: writersfordemocraticaction.org/ichh or contact wdapresentsichh@gmail.com
