The C.C. Stern Type Foundry is hosting a free poetry reading and broadside launch at the Clatskanie Cultural Center on September 16, 2023. The launch event is for a new broadside of Oregon Poet Laureate Emeritus Paulann Petersen’s poem “A Backstory Beyond My Recounting” from Petersen’s 2023 collection My Kindred. This event marks the release of the third broadside to be printed as part of the C.C. Stern Type Foundry’s Pacific Northwest Poets Laureate Project. The event is from 6:00-7:30pm and an open house at the C.C. Stern Type Foundry in Clatskanie, Oregon will be held prior to the reading (from 1:00-4:00pm). Paulann Petersen, who served as Oregon Poet Laureate from 2010-2014, will be reading poems from her new collection. She is the author of five chapbooks and seven poetry collections, published between 2002 and 2023. The broadside is illustrated and printed by Portland-based printer Kathy Kuehn, Salient Seedling Press, using metal type cast at the C.C. Stern Type Foundry. It is one in a series that uses traditional type founding and printing techniques to present poems in broadside form in order to spark community conversation.
