November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

To honor this nationwide celebration, South Pacific County Humane Society are featuring two of our great seniors, Yama the dog, and kitty Annie. Seniors can make great pets because they are calmer than puppies and kittens, usually have some training and are better behaved, and their true personalities have evolved and it is easier to determine if they would be a good fit to bring into your home!

Yama is an 8 year old Kai Ken. Kai Ken are one of six breeds of dogs native to Japan. In fact, Yama’s previous owner traveled to Japan to adopt him. This breed is known to be intelligent and brave, loyal to family but reserved with strangers. This describes Yama very well. While a little reserved when he first meets you, once he knows you Yama loves being petted and cuddled! This older gent still enjoys an active lifestyle. Yama loves going for walks and playing with squeaky toys. He would do better in a home with no other dogs and no children. He is housetrained and crate trained, and fully vetted so already for his new home!

Sweet six year old Annie was found abandoned with another kitty by our shelter building, so we don’t really know anything about her history. She is very affectionate, and if you like a kitty who will carry on a conversation with you, Annie is your girl! She loves to be petted, and will meow and chirp the entire time. What a sweetheart! Annie is currently in one of our free range kitty rooms, and seems to get along quite well. She is fully vetted, and ready to come home!
