w/visiting artists Bat Loomis and Andra Bose!
Make a vase adorned with colorful embellishments of your choice, from chains to daisies to daisy chains! Using a variety of handbuilding methods, students will learn how to work with colored clay to explore colors and shapes while creating a vase in this workshop. The body of the vase will be formed using a combination of pinch, slab, and coil techniques. Students will create and attach colorful clay elements using various techniques like slip and scoring. All clay, glaze, tools, and firings are provided, and each participant will create one vase. Vases will be fired and ready for pickup or shipping within 3-6 weeks after the class.
Andra Bose is a ceramicist working from her home studio in Seattle, Washington. She has a bachelor’s degree in Textiles and Apparel Design and minored in Studio Art with a focus in Ceramics. After spending a decade as a professional in the Textiles field, she found her way back to pottery and has spent the last 4 years finding her voice as an artist. Her current body of work is largely influenced by how a designer pulls colors and swatches together for a new project and studies how those colors work alongside one another. Andra sells her work online and at local maker markets, and this year has begun teaching in-person workshops.
Bat is a ceramicist in Tukwila, WA who works out of a private studio and loves sharing the joy of clay. While most of their work boasts bright colors, quirky sayings, and the occasional hand-painted drawing, making glazes from scratch has taken the reigns lately.
