The American Legion Post 99 in Seaside is once again providing its fall flag disposal service.
The Legion will host an event to collect flags for proper disposal on Sunday, November 10th, starting at noon until 3pm, volunteers, including local Scout troop members, will accept flags that are “unserviceable, tattered, faded, or worn.”
The United States Flag Code states that when a U.S. flag is no longer in good enough condition to be “a fitting emblem for display,” the banner “should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
As always, the disposal site is in the American Legion parking lot across from Broadway Park & Field in Seaside. Flags can be taken to the parking lot for the American Legion and Scouts to properly dispose of them.
The American Legion also collects unserviceable flags year-round at its Legion Hall, located at 1315 Broadway Street. Those flags will be disposed of during the event.
