LOCAL NEWS: Local surfer injured in Seaside shark attack
There was a shark attack Sunday afternoon in Seaside at the Cove, a popular area surfing spot.
John Rahl, Seaside assistant city manager, told KOIN TV in Portland that a shark bite was reported around 3:30 pm.
Bystanders had pulled the victim out of the water by the time emergency personnel arrived on scene. The victim is a young man in his 20s, a surfer and a local resident. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his lower leg. An off-duty Seaside Beach Lifeguard applied a field tourniquet to the injured leg, which helped slow the bleeding.
Seaside Fire, Police and Medix responded to the incident. As of Sunday evening, his condition was unknown.
