Imagine that when we died we could simply “upload “our consciousness into some kind of computer. Would this be real “immortality”, or just a semblance of it? What sorts of political, cultural, and ethical issues should we consider as we build technology with aims like this in mind? And, what are some of the philosophical implications for our identity, our capacity to think and care as humans, and our freedom?
