In the era of wooden boats, “chafing mats” were woven out of repurposed fishing line and placed on the deck in high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear on the wooden surface. It was regarded as a boat ‘accessory’ and many fishermen who had pride in their craft learned how to weave them. Over the course of a Saturday afternoon, students will work in pairs to create their own Oval Knot from repurposed fishing line. $80 / member, $100 nonmember, One spot for this workshop is available at half the member price ($40) thanks to generous donors to CRMM’s Adult EDU scholarship fund!
