Special Consensus, May 7 at the Historic Raymond Theater.
Sunday Afternoon Live continues in the vein of uniquely American music on May 7 with the presentation of Special Consensus. This bluegrass institution is more than just a band. Special Consensus has been a “finishing school for promising young players” for nearly 50
years (The Chicago Reader), with dozens of bluegrass players passing through its ranks since 1975. Greg Cahill is the founder and the center of Special Consensus, and it is through his efforts that this band has not only mentored future world-class musicians, but has also educated children worldwide about the art of bluegrass music. Mr Cahill began the Traditional American Music program in 1984 to help students pre-K through college learn about and connect with
bluegrass music, and he has taken his program all over the United States and internationally. Special Consensus has been an internationally recognized and award-winning group for decades, being nominated multiple times for Grammys and winning the International Bluegrass Music Association’s highest awards and nominations for 2020’s album Chicago Barn Dance. The band’s latest album Great Blue North is a tribute to the bluegrass players of Canada, and is due out on May 12. Special Consensus tours continuously throughout the US and Canada,
and will be making a top-billing appearance at this year’s Bluegrass in LaRoche Festival in France, Europe’s largest bluegrass venue.
The Special Consensus line-up includes the best of today’s bluegrass music luminaries: Dan Eubanks (upright bass/vocals), Michael Prewitt (mandolin/vocals), Greg Cahill (banjo/vocals),
and SAL past performer Greg Blake (guitar/vocals). Sunday Afternoon Live audiences will be pleased to see Mr. Blake return to SAL’s stage! Once again, Sunday Afternoon Live is privileged to host performers of this caliber. Get ready to be entertained, educated, and inspired by the music of America!
