The Revenue Cutter Service was initially created in 1790 to assist with Tax Collection. This federal agency started with ten vessels at key ports along the East Coast of the United States. From its roots in 1790, a modern U.S. Coast Guard would later be formed after many mergers and acquisitions of other federal agencies. Talk runs 20 minutes in the Ford Room.
