The C.C. Stern Type Foundry is hosting a poetry reading and broadside launch at the Clatskanie Cultural Center on June 22, 2024 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. The launch event is for a new letterpress broadside featuring the poem “Where Are You Going” by Kathleen Flenniken. The event will feature a poetry reading by Flenniken and a discussion of the broadside creation with letterpress printer Laura Bentley of Pinwheel Press. Kathleen Flenniken is an award-winning poet who served as Washington State Poet Laureate from 2012–2014. She is author of three poetry collections: Post Romantic (University of Washington Press, 2020), Plume (University of Washington Press, 2012), and Famous (University of Nebraska Press, 2006). This event marks the release of the fourth broadside to be printed as part of the C.C. Stern Type Foundry’s Pacific Northwest Poets Laureate Project. The C.C. Stern Type Foundry is an Oregon based 501(c)3 organization dedicated to preserving the heritage of the type casting industry, educating people in the history and current applications of metal type, and creating new letterpress artwork using traditional practices.
