On March 27th at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:00pm), Wild Salmon Center will host “Forest Under Siege” as part of the Nature Matters Series at Fort George Brewery’s Lovell Showroom.  Local author and environmentalist Rand Schenck will present and discuss his new book, “Forest Under Siege: The Story of Old Growth After Gifford Pinchot” published by Basalt Books at WSU Press.  Through the lens of forestry practices on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Schenck explores a century of forest management in the Pacific Northwest.  From early stewardship through an era of relentless logging, and ultimately toward the recovery and rebirth of old-growth forests, his work provides a visceral account of the challenges and triumphs in conserving these irreplaceable ecosystems.  Schenck’s presentation connects this intricate history to ongoing efforts to protect state forestland on the North Coast, as part of the local Stand Tall campaign.
