Musical Storytime, a hands-on activity for preschoolers, will be offered at 10:00am March 10th at the North Tillamook Library in Manzanita.
The free readings, for children ages 3 to 5, will feature a live violin accompaniment by North Oregon Coast Symphony musician, Shannon Steele. This month children will hear two stories about the violin. Barn Dance by Bill Martin Jr. has a rhythmic cadence that builds the story from a quiet moonlit night when ‘there’s magic in the air’ to a very special, foot stomping party. This book has an engaging blend of words and pictures to set both the mind and eye dancing. The second book featured will be Mole Music by David McPhail with beautiful illustrations. In this story, Mole hears the sweet sound of a violin. “I want to make beautiful music, too,” Mole claims. Mole practices and practices and over time has quite an impact on people around him. Steele will demonstrate both classical and fiddle style playing during this event. After the reading, children will experience playing the violin just like Mole in the story.
Similar events are being planned monthly in partnership between The North Oregon Coast Symphony, North Tillamook Library and Astoria Library.
