Come join local author, Peter Marsh, at Fort Columbia State Park for a talk on his latest book, “Liberty Factory: The Untold Story of Henry Kaiser’s Shipyards”

“Liberty Factory” uncovers the fascinating legacy of Henry Kaiser’s WWII Shipyards in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. These shipyards, two of which were in Portland and one in Vancouver, employed 100,000 workers including 30,000 women and launched over 700 vessels, including Liberty ships, oil tankers, and escort aircraft carriers. Their story remains largely untold, despite their significant contribution to the war effort.

Peter Marsh was born in Greenwich, right at the heart of Britain’s maritime heritage, and was soon smitten with a love of small boats and sailing. Marsh brings decades of expertise to the topic, having served as boatyard correspondent and editor for Freshwater News and playing a key role in developing the Hanthorn Cannery Museum in Astoria. He currently lives in Astoria.

The talk will be located inside the Barracks building, also known as the Fort Columbia Interpretive Center.
