Discover a fascinating story from the 1908 Quarantine Station Log Book and the public health measures that safeguarded Astoria from contagious diseases. These events prompted the expansion of the Station and the construction of the unique Lazaretto building in 1912, which remains the last public isolation facility from that era. Heather will share insights from her recent visit to Ellis Island and what visitors can expect at Knappton Cove. Nancy Anderson, founder of the Knappton Cove Heritage Center, will be available for questions.

Heather Henry, granddaughter of the U.S. Columbia River Quarantine Station’s owners, transformed the quarantine hospital into the Knappton Cove Heritage Center with her mother, Nancy Anderson. Established as a non-profit in 2004, Heather, a third-generation OSU graduate in Nutrition/Communication, has returned home to support historic preservation after experiences in California and Virginia.
