The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco announces the special exhibit “Grand Hotels of the North Beach Peninsula” opening April 9th. This exhibit highlights the major hotels built here to provide extravagant entertainment, grand accommodations and extraordinary service and food. In the late 19th and early 20th century the resort industry began on the North Beach Peninsula. During this time whole families would visit for up to three months during the summer. Sometimes they would bring along the family cow or their own horse and buggy. Transportation from Portland would be via a steamer such as the T.J. Potter. The Potter would dock in Ilwaco where it would be met by the train or local carriages, wagons, or buggies. The exhibit will run until July 9th. The museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free.
