Petrale, whiting, and rockfish, oh my! Astoria’s history as the salmon capital of the world looms large in our prevailing narrative of our local fisheries, but the modern-day commercial fishing fleet bears little resemblance to the butterfly fleet of old.
Come learn what local fishermen catch now, the vessels and tools they use to pursue their catch, and how the industry fits into our county and state economies. Amanda Gladics, Associate Professor of Practice with Oregon Sea Grant and OSU Extension, will share an overview of Oregon and Clatsop County fisheries and share information about Oregon Sea Grant’s training programs for fleet members and coastal residents and visitors.
