Don’t miss your chance to take a class from our first national visiting artist, Carli Giese!

In this hands-on workshop you will blend creativity with functionality as you design and craft a slab-built cup, mug, or planter with its own unique facial expression. Using slab-building techniques you will learn how to balance functionality with artistic expression giving each piece their own character and charm. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, this workshop offers a supportive environment to experiment and create.

Carli Giese is a ceramic artist based in Phoenix, AZ. She earned her BFA in Ceramics from Arizona State University in 2016 and completed a three-month residency at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China, with West Virginia University in 2015. After graduating, Carli worked as a studio assistant to Patricia Sannit and served as a studio technician at Phoenix College. She has also held multiple teaching positions. Carli later moved to Flagstaff, where she worked in the ceramics studio at Coconino Community College and completed a post-baccalaureate program at Northern Arizona University in 2020. In 2019, Carli received the Viola Award for Emerging Artist in Flagstaff. She now continues to create from her home studio in Phoenix.
