COVID update for Friday June 11

Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services has confirmed two 2 additional COVID-19 cases in county residents. The individuals are in self-quarantine. This brings Wahkiakum to a cumulative total of 151 cases with 33 of those potentially active.

There is a connection to the Wahkiakum School District. Thanks to ongoing close cooperation between the school and Health Department and significant protective measures in place, they will be staying open.

One new COVID case was reported in Clatsop County Thursday. Thirteen cases are currently being monitored. Clatsop County is currently at Lower Risk according to Oregon metrics through June 17. If the county were to exceed 20 cases during the current weekly monitoring period, Clatsop County would be bumped up to Moderate Risk.

Statewide, OHA says a little over 97,000 people still need to be vaccinated in order for the state to reach 70 percent immunity, a benchmark the state is seeking to reduce community spread of the disease. The state is at 67 percent vaccinated.

Locally, Clatsop and Tillamook counties are about 52 percent vaccinated, Columbia county is 41 percent.

And Seattle has become the first large American city to reach 70 percent of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19.The city reported it has administered 250,000 vaccine doses to 131,000 people and that 78 percent of the city’s residents over the age of 12 have started the vaccination process.
