A wildfire in the Clatsop State Forest is still burning but partially contained as of Wednesday afternoon.
The Knob Point fire began early Monday morning at a site about nine miles southeast of Knappa on private timberland. It has burned an estimated 100 acres.
Ami Kreider, wildland fire supervisor with the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Astoria District Office, says responders have established a line around the entirety of the fire while the fire itself is around 10% contained.
Kreider says cooler temperatures in the forecast and the possibility of rain will help with firefighting efforts.
The Knob Point fire is in a remote area and no homes are threatened at this time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Kreider says it was human-cased. There was no active logging at the site when the fire started.
A number of agencies have helped with the response to the fire including the Washington Department of Natural Resources and local fire stations like the Knappa Fire District, among others.
