Road work means delays downtown

Road work on Highway 30 in Astoria began a day earlier than previously announced today and will continue through Thursday

Crews with the Oregon Department of Transportation are repairing sections of damaged pavement on the roadway between 16th and 33rd Streets on Highway 30/Leif Erikson Drive.

Travelers should expect daytime lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic. There will be congestion, backups and delays through the work area.

Work is expected to continue through this afternoon and then will begin again Thursday at 6 a.m. It is expected to go through about 3:30 p.m.

Travel could be especially slow in the morning as families drop off students at the nearby Astor Elementary School.
