A Story Told – July 9, 2026

In this week’s show, Michael honors the opening of the 2026 Shanghaied in Astoria theater season by reading a script he (as one of the actors in the theater troupe) used to perform years ago to open the show.

And he remembers Bloody Thursday,  the anniversary on July 5, of the violent 1934 West Coast waterfront workers strike that left longshoremen dead after they clashed with police. The events of Bloody Thursday shocked the public and ignited a massive, three-day San Francisco General Strike. The resulting coastwide solidarity ultimately forced owners to concede, securing worker-controlled union hiring halls and ending corrupt labor practices.

Your host for A Story Told, Michael McCusker, has been a regular voice on KMUN’s airwaves since the 1980s. Each week he shares commentary and writings about the current state of just about everything.
