William Shorey and his family were promine nt members of Oakland\, California’s Black upper class. But in the 1920 census\, his wife (now a widow) and their children were living in the tiny town of Hammond on the Oregon Coast. Zachary Stocks of Oregon Black Pione ers will describe how this wealthy Black family ended up there\, and what their lives might have been like.\nZachary Stocks is a public historian\, interpreter\, and the Executive Director of Oregon Black Pioneers. Zachary previously served as Program Director of Historical Seaport and Visitor S ervices Manager of Northwest African American Museum. He is a former inter n of Colonial Williamsburg and Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural Hi story\, and a former seasonal Park Ranger at Lewis &\; Clark National H istorical Park. He holds a BA in History from the College of William &\ ; Mary with a certificate in Public History from the National Institute fo r American History and Democracy\, and an MA in Museology from the Univers ity of Washington.
