DESCRIPTION:For their upcoming Spring concert\, the North Coast Chorale (NC
 C) is reprising their exploration into Broadway musicals – this year\, o
 n the theme of The Macabre. NCC Director\, Vincent Jones-Centeno has selec
 ted a series of choral medleys that reflect that the light exists within u
 s all\, even in the face of darkness and despair.\nThese musicals showcase
  a wide range of musical styles\, from classical and romantic operatic ari
 as to 60’s Doo Wop and Rhythm and Blues featuring characters who exist w
 ithin their own version of hell\, yet long for the light of heaven and wil
 l do anything\, even evil acts\, to reach it. In Sweeney Todd\, the myster
 ious and murderous barber is consumed by heartbreak and revenge. Little Sh
 op of Horrors presents a supernatural plant with a taste for blood who tak
 es advantage of a well-meaning flower shop owner. Matilda\, the Musical\, 
 examines overly disciplined schoolchildren who must challenge authority. A
 nd in Phantom of the Opera\, a disfigured musical genius who has never kno
 wn love fears the world as much as the world fears him.\nThe medleys will 
 include soloists and ensembles showcasing the depth of local talent\, and 
 young performers from the Astoria Conservatory of Music will enliven the c
 oncert with song and dance.\nTwo performances will be held at the Charlene
  Larsen Center for the Performing Arts\, 588 16th street in Astoria.\nFrid
 ay\, May 17 at 7:00 pm\nSunday May 19 at 4:00 pm.\nTickets are $17 and can
