DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, April 4th\, 2026 the Seaside Public Library will 
 welcome Lowell Greathouse who will be facilitating\, “Talking About Valu
 es Across Political Divides.” This event will take place at 2:00pm in th
 e Community Room and was made possible through Oregon Humanities’ “Bey
 ond 250 Conversation Project” series in an effort to get Oregonians toge
 ther to talk about democracy\, freedom\, and what it means to be an Americ
 an—today and into the future.\n“How can I be me without making it diff
 icult for you to be you?” This question gets at the fundamental challeng
 e of being in society together. We live in a contentious political world\,
  and it’s difficult to talk about our deepest values and beliefs in safe
 \, civil\, and respectful ways. In 2021\, the Pew Research Center found th
 at nearly six in ten Americans felt that political conversations with thos
 e you disagree with are generally stressful and frustrating\, as opposed t
 o being interesting and informative. If we avoid such conversations\, we l
 ose opportunities to form a community with others that reflects our best s
 elves. How can we learn to share our values in ways that bring us together
  rather than push us further apart?
