North Coast theatergoers can be the first to see REvamping REstell, a genre-fluid, theatrical kaleidoscope exploring women’s choices and all the recurring politics involved. The performances will be on Saturday, August 22nd at 7:30pm and Sunday, August 23rd at 3:30pm at the Ten Fifteen Theater in Astoria.
The workshop production excavates the life and times of Madame Restell, a 19th century female physician, famed midwife and notorious abortionist. Spiritualists commune, live musicians play, and Anthony Comstock, Restell’s nemesis and leader of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, rails against the women of his era. Oh, how the times haven’t changed!
This play-in-process is presented in association with Ten Fifteen Productions. There will be a post-play discussion with the playwright and cast following both performances. The cast includes Deborah Jensen as Madame Restell, along with Marc Weaver, Cameron Lira, Danyelle Tinker, and Cyndi Fisher. Duplechain’s recent directorial work includes Tiny Beautiful Things, Decked!, and For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday with Ten Fifteen Productions.
Both performances are pay-what-you-can with all proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette and the Northwest Abortion Access Fund.
Pay-what-you-can reservations for this special event are strongly recommended.
