 lestine 36\nASTORIA\, Ore. — North Coast Ceasefire Now and KALA will hos
 t a free community screening of the acclaimed film Palestine 36 on Sunday\
 , June 14th at 5:00pm at KALA in Astoria. Doors open at 4:30pm with food a
 nd beverages available for purchase.\nFollowing the screening\, attendees 
 will have the opportunity to participate in a discussion and Q&amp\;A feat
 uring representatives from Jewish Voice for Peace and members of the Arab 
 American League.\nPalestine 36 is a historical drama set during the Arab R
 evolt of 1936–1939\, the largest and longest uprising against British co
 lonial rule in Palestine during Britain’s three-decade mandate. The film
  received a 20-minute standing ovation at its premiere at the 2025 Toronto
  International Film Festival and was selected as Palestine’s official su
 bmission for the 98th Academy Awards.\nPalestinian writer and director Ann
 emarie Jacir describes the film as “a nod to the persistence of the huma
 n spirit\, of the desire of a people to be free. It is our story.”\nAcco
 rding to organizers\, the screening is intended to encourage reflection on
  the role of ordinary people in responding to injustice and human sufferin
 g. North Coast Ceasefire Now views the film as an opportunity to explore h
 istorical and contemporary questions surrounding colonialism\, displacemen
 t\, human rights\, and civic engagement.\n“Although we are separated by 
 geography and history from the events portrayed in the film\, we are conne
 cted through our shared humanity and our collective future\,” organizers
  said. “The children of Astoria and the children of Palestine will inher
 it the same planet. We believe every person deserves the opportunity to li
 ve with dignity\, safety\, and freedom\, and we encourage community member
 s to learn\, engage in dialogue\, and participate in the democratic proces
