SUMMARY:Lower Columbia Preservation Society Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:The Lower Columbia Preservation Society presents the lecture\, 
 “Going Nowhere Fast\, Stories of the Columbia River Lightships” by Rye
 n Nielsen\, Interpretive Specialist at Washington State Parks. Lightships 
 functioned as floating lighthouses\, faithfully guiding mariners through d
 angerous waters all over the world. The Columbia River Lightship stood as 
 a sentinel out on the Columbia River Bar for decades\, weathering the wors
 t conditions our area has to offer\, all while keeping its light shining. 
 Come listen to stories of the challenges the Columbia River Lightship\, an
 d her crew members\, faced as they battled to keep sailors safe as they cr
 ossed the world’s most dangerous river crossing.
