DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 1st: Cultivating a Natural Dye | 10:00am to
  2:00pm w/visiting artist\, Katey Rissi at The Sou'wester Lodge Pavilion. 
 3728 J Pl Seaview\, WA. Ages 10+ w/an adult or ages 14+.\nLearn about the 
 magic of creating color with plants in this introduction to natural dye wo
 rkshop. This class will lay a solid foundation down to help you understand
  the fundamentals of how natural dyeing works\, so you can continue a dye 
 practice yourself. We will discuss the history of plant color\, what fabri
 cs to use\, how to prepare fabric for dyeing\, and of course\, which plant
 s to work with. Students will leave the class with a dye swatch book and a
  bundle dyed bandana.\nKatey Rissi is a Pacific-Northwest-based printmaker
 \, textile artist and educator. Her work explores themes of bio-regionalis
 m\, ecology\, time\, rewilding\, and enchantment. In terms of process\, sh
 e is focused on slow-making practices like analog (and anachronistic) imag
 e-making techniques\, mending textiles\, and making art materials out of t
 hings gathered and grown.\nKatey holds a BFA in graphic design from Wester
 n Michigan University with a focus in photography and printmaking\, and st
 udied screenprinting at the Art Student’s League of Denver. She teaches 
 art classes to both youth and adults\, and has worked in program planning\
 , as an elementary school art teacher\, and as a teaching artist for the p
 ast 6 years. She is currently the class coordinator and print studio manag
 er at Alchemy Art Center\, a community art center on San Juan Island.\n
