Casey Parks, author of the award-winning “Diary of a Misfit” and a reporter for the Washington Post, will speak at a free reading and reception hosted by the Writer’s Guild of Astoria and Peace First Lutheran Church, with support from Literary Arts. “Diary of a Misfit” explores sexual identity, its treatment by the Southern Christian churches in which Parks grew up, and her tortured relationship with her mother. The evening begins with a reading by Alyssa Graybeal, the Astoria-based author of Floppy, an award-winning memoir about living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting the body’s connective tissues.
